Do you have any advice for someone learning to play the banjo on how to tune the banjo head and how often they should be changed?
there are many theories of this. which you can investigate later. for right now just be sure of two things:
a. that the head is tight enough so the area under the bridge is fairly flat.
if head gets loose and strings sink down via the bridge sinking down, problems arise
b. the head is contiguous, or solid and there are no tears.
as far as how often they need to be changed, never really. i'd keep going until they broke.
