Howdy, I was watching on youtube where you were playing Shit Creek with Thee Old Codgers and you go from picking to frailing and back. My question is how do you keep your picks from snagging the strings and sailing off into space when you do your frailing strum?
the first 15 years i practiced that they did go flying.
i use my ring and little finger together, and hold the index and middle [with the picks] out of the way. i use to see john hartford do that and also when i was a young man there was this great banjo player brad brashears from paragould arkansas that did that as well. it takes time to get used to but it's a great technique.
You mentioned a British hip-hop duo awhile back and I've been trying to remember who it was, any thoughts as to who it might have been? Also if I bring my Bishline to the Albino Skunk festival next month would you show me how to tighten the head?
I appreciate your time.
You seem to be on the road a lot lately. You clearly have broad tastes - you mentioned Don Stover & Sun Ra once during the same interview- so what are you listening to these days?Danny Barnes responded on 10/13/2016
